Parenting Websites

Parenting websites are found in every corner of the websites. They spout profound advice on everything to diapers to braces, but take care. Many websites exist solely to sell the product of their sponsors. An example of this is many baby food and diaper sites offer advice on nutrition and potty training. One has to wonder why a diaper company would want your child to be potty trained. The following is a list of sites and their summaries as well as their areas of expertise.

Parenting Magazine- This web site covers the stages from pregnancy to pre-teen and discusses a wide range of topics from pre-natal care to talking about sex. The advice at this website is objective, and much of it comes from doctors and parents themselves.

iVillage Parenting- This website starts at trying to conceive and covers all the way up to the teen years. This site is interactive and even gives the opportunity to customize the page as it is viewed on your computer. It is chock full of message boards and calendars that can be customized to suit your children’s ages. Some of the articles at this iVillage come directly from MSNBC, so be prepared to get the latest on childrearing.

Wondertime- Direct from the pages of this new magazine, Wondertime covers the stages of birth to age six. There is not much advice on rearing, but this site does offer some neat projects and there are journal pages that you can download directly from your computer to add to your scrapbook. The site also offers a good deal of learning activities for your pre-school child.

iParenting? this is not your typical parenting website. It is a parenting community offering Blogs instead of articles, sort of a MySpace for parents. It is prone to pop-ups and all the pages are covered for ads for this and that. Despite all that, when you are a mom desperate for someone feeling the same way you do this is a good place to go.

Parenting.org? hosted by Boys and Girls Town this website reads like a health department web site with articles on everything from burping to spanking. The web site is crude, but it gets the job done.

Your website preference will invariably depend on your parenting style and the amount of support or advice that you would like.
